Free Composting Program Having Big Impact — Still time to sign up for free service

1089 households signed up since launch in October 2025

3 tons a week collected amounting to 102 tons total collected since launch last Fall 

Participants are creating nutrient rich compost AND Greatly reducing land fill waste. 

City is charged $63 a ton for waste so composting program has resulted in $6,426 in municipal savings 

Newport residents may still get 2 years of free composting if they sign up before the end of August.    Residents who sign up in September or later can still get one year for free.
