Students of NSP take the stagealongside their mentors in the Newport String Quartet
March 7th and March 8th
The snow may have presented some plot twists in recent weeks but we are delighted to step into March with an exciting weekend of events featuring the students of the Newport String Project!
On Saturday March 7th at 2pm, the Winter Performance Party takes place at St Paul's Church (12 Marlborough Street). This heartwarming afternoon will feature solo, duo and ensemble performances and a wildly enthusiastic audience. This event is free and no RSVPs are required.
On Sunday March 8th at 3pm, the Newport String Quartet and their students will present Songs of Childhood, Songs of Play - a special side-by-side concert at the Jamestown Arts Center.
The Newport String Quartet will perform an eclectic set of works that draw inspiration from children’s folk songs from Mexico, Haiti, Afghanistan, Mali, Syria and Ghana. From handclapping games to lullabies, these pieces are sure to delight and offer some unexpected surprises along the way! This side-by-side event will also feature selections performed by the quartet along with their students who participate in NSP’s free youth mentoring programs.
This is a free event. Gifts in support of the Newport String Quartet’s free performances and youth mentoring programs are welcome.
